Take the same dosage every two days if the side effects do not go away. When taking the medication to increase potency, the recommended dosage is 0.5 mg every 10 days. No information is available about the interaction between cabergoline and other ergot alkaloids; therefore, the concomitant use of these medications during long-term treatment with cabergoline is not recommended. After cabergoline withdrawal, recurrence of hyperprolactinaemia is usually observed. However, persistent suppression of prolactin levels has been observed for several months in some patients.

Some of the older dopamine agonists increase the risk of heart and lung problems. They are known as ‘ergot’ types and include bromocriptine, pergolide and cabergoline. Because of this risk, these Parkinson’s drugs are no longer recommended and we haven’t included them here. The manufacturer advises that in cases of failed inhibition or suppression of lactation, breastfeeding should not take place as the risk to humans is unknown. Schaefer (2007), however, concludes that as long as milk is being produced, breastfeeding may continue, even when cabergoline is being given. Hale (2010) also agrees that in cases where lactation is retained, breastfeeding may occur providing the infant is monitored for ergot side effects.

Many patients would like more information on the overall performance of the clinic they are interested in. It very much depends on your situation and the reason why the drugs weren’t successful (if your doctor is able to find a reason). Your treatment options could include, in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), intrauterine insemination (IUI) or surrogacy. In some cases, you may want to consider using donated eggs, sperm or embryos in treatment. In many cases, yes you should be able to get these medications as long as they’ve been prescribed.

Pathological gambling, increased libido, hypersexuality, compulsive spending or buying, binge eating and compulsive eating can occur in patients treated with dopamine agonists including Dostinex (see section 4.4). A single dose of 0.25 mg of cabergoline should not be exceeded in nursing women treated for suppression of established lactation to avoid potential postural hypotension (see section 4.2). In post-partum studies with cabergoline, blood pressure decreases were mostly asymptomatic and were frequently observed on a single occasion 2 to 4 days after treatment. Since decreases in blood pressure are frequently noted during the puerperium, independently of drug therapy, it is likely that many of the observed decreases in blood pressure after cabergoline administration were not drug-induced.
